CSS for this site
(agk) Links – 2020 February
I want this site to look better on desktop, especially on big monitors, without loading slower on bad connections, looking worse on mobile, or becoming less accessible. So I’m collecting links to css I like.
Favorite examples:
- Ugly Duck has a great worked example that constrains line width, while allowing sexy full-bleed elements with the help of section tags at poor man’s full bleed. He uses the system default sans-serif font and two css files for his site: style.css and custom.css. It looks great on mobile but takes a beat to load.
- Bear Blog is beautiful. The css is in the source. Mataroa Blog is equally pretty on mobile, a little less so but still very good on desktop. The css is in style.css, and his rules are at a simple css ruleset.
- Sijmen’s homepage is pretty everywhere. The css is crazy simple and in the source. I like his directory of text-only websites.
