What i'm thinking about in Oct 2023

I am thinking about unions striking, as well as labor groups that are unwilling (unable?) to stand up for themselves. I'm thinking about electricity vs the environment and what can be done about the conflict that seems to always crop up between them and i'm thinking about color ground out of lumps of dirt.

It's September 2023. What am I thinking about this month?

Well, this week anyway, I'm thinking about labor equity and the arts and the difficulty of ensuring fair labor conditions for artists and teaching artists. It's weird that in 2023 with all the design heavy interfaces our lives are funneled through in digital spaces we seem to spend so much time in, people still think of art as some frivolous extra, not central to our daily interactions and how miserable or not miserable these are. I mean yes there are a lot of factors in that, but art or creativity overall is definitely one of those things. So why is it so hard for artists to get paid?

The other thing I'm thinking about a lot is natural pigments, lightfastness, reactivity of pigments with other pigments and how that might change or affect the life span of a work of art.

Other than that, I'm just as usual thinking about trauma and society and health and the weather and all the ways these things make us kinda crazy. While I write this there has been a siren just humming for about the past 15 minutes and that seems related to the above.
